Giorgos Gkikas is a PhD candidate at FAME Lab. His research focuses on developing and applying technological solutions to better understand and mitigate the effects of heat stress on human performance, health, and productivity.
Giorgos Gkikas is a researcher in environmental physiology with a multidisciplinary background bridging human thermophysiology, data science, and technology. His work focuses on developing and applying technological solutions to better understand and mitigate the effects of heat stress on human performance, health, and productivity. He has participated in laboratory and field studies examining physiological responses to environmental stressors, and his current research explores the integration of digital health technologies, environmental monitoring, and modeling approaches to support occupational health and climate resilience.
Giorgos studied Sport Science and Physical Education at the University of Thessaly and continued with an MSc in Exercise and Health. He is currently a PhD Candidate in Environmental Physiology at the University of Thessaly, investigating how technological applications can support human adaptation and safety in challenging environmental conditions.
He actively contributes to European and international research projects in thermophysiology and occupational heat stress, participating in the design and execution of experimental protocols, data collection, and data analysis. His work supports the development of practical strategies for mitigating environmental stress impacts on health and productivity. In parallel with his academic work, Giorgos applies his skills in data science, mobile application development, and hardware prototyping to create tools for physiological data collection and analysis. He has developed several digital applications for both research and public use, bringing together his interests in environmental physiology, technological development, and data analysis.
